Ask and ye shall receive, commenters; today is the day that you requested. Today we push aside big book fairs and corporations and their easy-to-buy books. Today we shun the traffickers of false memoirs and mammoth book advances. Today we say, WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ BORDERS!
We’ll begin with the Reader Book Swap. Tonight, at the Hideout, from 5:30PM-8:30PM, you can bring as many as 15 used books, and exchange them for 15 other ones. Keep in mind to bring your nice books, not your ratty, old, dog-eared, smelly books, but nice ones that other people will want to read. There will be door prizes and beer too; free books and beer. What do we say to free books and beer? WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ BORDERS!
Good, on to New City’s ‘Other Book Festival’. On Sunday, June 4th, at Cactus, New City will host an interview with Harvey Pekar, creator of ‘American Splendor’. Also from 5PM-8PM there will be a book bazaar where independent publishers and booksellers can show off their wares, with no fear of being overshadowed. There will be drinks there too, and food specials, and music, and dj’s and jazz.
To recap: what we do need is new books, beer, music and food specials. What don’t we need? WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ BORDERS! Unless there’s a book we really want today and we know our indie guy doesn’t have it and Borders is right around the corner.
